Getaway Guide: NYC | places to eat and things to do to get your Started in New York city

I LOVE traveling, and I love sharing restaurants and things to do so other people can enjoy the same amazing destination. There are so many options, ESPECIALLY in a place like NYC, that the lists of good eats and things to do and see are endless. My getaway guides are simply meant to give you a head start so you’re not going into a trip totally clueless. You’ll find middle of the road restaurant options, and a few things to get your day started with adventure. I’m a huge fan of going with the flow when I travel, but I’ve found doing a bit of researching and pre-planning helps me get the most out of a new city or area. So, consider this your basic research. I’m going to give you deets by area so you have some places to hit as you explore the island.

I’M OBSESSED WITH THIS PART OF THE COUNTRY. It is full of romance, rich history, and some of the world’s best wine. We only got to explore a small portion of Tuscany, but it’s evident God spent a little extra time here. There are rolling hills, snow capped mountains in the distance, and views for days. We ventured out into the countryside (which is a must), but it’s no surprise this preeeecious little town in the heart of the region was a fave. I tell people, if you want to experience true Italian culture, Florence is your place (remember, this is based on the 4 “touristy” cities we visited). There are definitely touristy areas of the city, but you are just a couple alleys away from local hole-n-the-wall bliss.

It’s easy to get lost in a world centuries old as your mind races trying to take in every detail while standing inside the landmarks our history books attempt to describe. You’re watching gladiators rise from the ground of the Colosseum to the cheers of thousands of spectators—almost hearing the roar of the crowd, or imagining the fervency Paul had while writing his letters to Timothy when looking at Mamertine Prison.

ITALIAAAA! This romantic and historical country is everything you dream it would be. From the relational culture to the heavenly cuisine, I walked around with the goofiest grin on my face most of the trip. MAGICAL. Since it was fall, we skipped the coast this trip, and went to 4 different cities: Milan, Venice, Rome, and Florence. We were in country for 7 1/2 days, and I have to say it was barely enough time to do all we did. I usually like to go with the flow when we’re traveling and wander until we stumble onto hidden gems, but there is SO MUCH to see in this country, a plan was necessary…especially if you’re traveling between cities! We relied on suggestions and referrals from friends and family for the bulk of the trip, but found some friggin’ cool places on our own. There are a several cultural consistencies and travel tips helpful for all of Italy that I’ll share first.

A Few Changes Coming to Dash + We're Hiring!

Dash is thriving, and I'm so so thankful for that.  I love our wedding clients—we have some of the best. I get so much joy watching their friends and families enjoy the amazing experience the couples create.  I've had the privilege of telling the stories of couples during the most amazingly luxurious wedding days.  I couldn't be more thankful for each family that has trusted me with such an important part of their day, and how each one has built this brand in ways I could only dream about.  On the flip side, I feel like I've forced a version of myself thinking I had to fit a certain mold to be successful in Atlanta or have a respected brand.

After a lot of soul searching, conversations, prayer, and traveling, I've found my heart is happiest…
